Sekhmet was an Ancient Egyptian goddess portrayed as a female figure with the head of a lioness and meted out divine vengeance on errant humans (what I call the dumbasses and IDTenTees of the world) when they went astray and didn't worship the Gods. Normally Sekhmet avoids politics, usually regarding it as an exercise in futility...however, one aspect of the current political arena has caught her attention and she felt it worthy to chime in, as the scene is all to familiar. Former president Bush, also known as the Grand Sherrif, has threw down the philosophical gauntlet, declaring, "If you ain't with us, you're agin' us...".This alleged unpatriotism is equated with aiding and abetting the Taliban, which in effect is treason. Of course the accused vehemently denies the charge, staunchly defending their patriotism; citing descent as the very essence of patriotism. This confrontation has interested Sekhmet with both bemusement and sadness, for she can find that no one, not one commentator, politician, journalist or armchair quarterback has looked at patriotism itself. So, Sekhmet will do this for them. Patriotism IS NOT a virtue; it's a pathological condition. Patriotism provides a surrogate soul for nonentities who have never developed souls of their own, (yes, Virginia, there is a soul, but, like a talent for music, it must be developed. No development, no music). It is inherintly confrontational, devisive and often times destructive. Recall that all too familiar bumper sticker that reads, "GOD BLESS AMERICA!" Yet, little do readers know that the reverse side says, "FUCK EVERYONE ELSE". So, let's take a further look into patriotism. As repugnant as this may come across to many, Hitler's Storm Troopers were patriots; suicide bombers are patriots; Irgun and Stern gangs in the forgotten days of Israel were patriots. After all it was David Ben Gurion that invented terrorism when he bombed the King David Hotel in 1948. Of course, there is a difference between American patriots and their patriots. American patriots are good. God loves American patriots, otherwise He would not have made them so rich and not given us the Chosen One, aka Barack Hussein Obama. Their patriots are evil, God hates their patriots, unless you are Hugo Chavez. 200 years ago, Stephen Decatur captured the essence of Oblama-style patriotism when he said, "Our country! In her intercourse with other nations may she always be in the right; but our country right or wrong." Sekhmet says this ranks right up there with the ten most stupidest things ever uttered by humanity, Hope and Change being the first. It's like saying, My dad! May he never rape or kill, but killer or rapist, my dad! Having thought over the malady, prescribing the cure is problematical. The usual Washington response to any problem, real or perceived, is to declare war on it, despite the fact that the War on Drugs and poverty were lost before it was even declared. Moreover, a war on patriotism has a genetic illogic to it; after all who would fight it, the Unpatriotic? The only hope, as Sekhmet sees it, is to recognize modern day patriotism for what it is; a tragic but repugnant psychological affliction akin to pedophilia. In other words, when todays patriotic mindset is equated to child molestation, then there may be a cure. In closing, Sekhmet notes that the intelligent and informed considered solidarity in the face of real danger (not pretend danger like anthropogenic global warming/climate change) is the constructive approach. This must not, under any circumstances be confused with todays patriotism
